Salix irrorata — Bluestem Willow
Native to North America, Bluestem Willow is a distinctive ornamental willow prized for its unusual stem colour. In the field, the young stems show a striking blend of blue and lavender-white, developing into dark red rods covered with a powdery white bloom in winter. This unusual colouring creates beautiful contrast in the landscape.
Bluestem Willow has an upright growth habit with slender stems that add colour and texture to the winter garden. It is not one of the most vigorous willow varieties, but its distinctive colouring and attractive form make it a worthwhile choice for ornamental planting, specialty weaving, and smaller living willow projects.
