Frances Red (Salix Purpurea) - Dormant Cuttings

Regular price $25.00 USD
Shipping calculated at checkout.

Description

These are cuttings for propagating your own willow.

Cuttings are sold in bundles of 10 cuttings at the regular price. When you order a total of 50 cuttings or more, you receive a 20% volume discount. You may mix and match different willow varieties within your order to reach the 50-cutting minimum.

Salix purpurea ‘Frances Red’

Salix purpurea ‘Frances Red’ is a highly valued basketry willow known for its long, slender, flexible rods and distinctive colouring. The rods grow with very little branching, making them particularly useful for weaving and for producing clean, straight material.

Fresh stems have dark green and purplish-red tones, while the bluish-green foliage provides an attractive contrast during the growing season. After soaking and drying, the rods develop a dark grey colour with subtle purplish-red tones.

Frances Red is also well suited to living willow structures. Bark can be harvested from 2–3-year-old rods for additional weaving and craft applications. Regular coppicing encourages the production of long, straight rods year after year.

Uses:

Basketry and fine weaving
Long structural rods and stakes
Living willow structures
Bark harvesting from 2–3-year-old rods
Decorative stems and colour accents
Woven garden projects

Hardiness Zone: 3–7
