Salix alba var. vitellina ‘Britzensis’
Salix alba var. vitellina ‘Britzensis’ is a striking ornamental willow prized for its vibrant winter colour. Its young stems emerge with bright scarlet tones before developing rich orange, and red hues as the season progresses, creating a colourful display through fall and winter.
Britzensis is particularly impressive when planted in groups and pollarded regularly, which encourages fresh, colourful growth and helps maintain a manageable size. In spring, the emerging buds add another seasonal feature to the plant.
The finer stems can also be used for basketry when fresh, although they can be somewhat brittle compared with dedicated basketry varieties. With its intense stem colour, Britzensis is an excellent choice when you want a willow that makes a strong visual impact in the landscape.
